It’s an event that showcases Calgary to the world and on Tuesday, July 11, the Global News is on the road at the 2017 Calgary Stampede.
Locals and tourists gear up for the 10-day event, throwing on their best western wear and chowing down on all the free pancake breakfasts they can find.

This year, the Stampede is tipping its hat to Canada, which is celebrating 150 years!
Of course, the Stampede a big part of Canada’s past and future. The greatest outdoor show on earth dates back to 1912, but its roots go even further back. We’ll give you a history lesson and let you know just how the show comes together so successfully every summer.
One of the big names in chuckwagon circles is Kelly Sutherland and he’s hanging up the reins after this season. We chat with the 12-time winner of the Calgary Stampede about his retirement and what’s next.
We’ll also take a look at the amazing relationship that exists between the five tribes of Treaty 7 and the Calgary Stampede, dating all the way back to the very first Calgary exhibition.
Global News will be live on location overlooking the grounds, as the Calgary Stampede pays tribute to Canada’s 150th.
