WINNIPEG– June 22, 2007, the first F5 tornado in Canadian history touched down in Elie, Man.
The tornado touched down at approximately 6:25 p.m., roughly 40 km from Winnipeg.
According to Environment Canada, the tornado was approximately 300 metres wide and stayed on the ground for around 35 minutes, tracking 5.5 km before lifting into the air. Its top wind speed was estimated to be between 430 and 510 km/h. No fatalities or serious injuries were reported.
