RCMP are investigating after a staff member was injured and an inmate was taken to hospital following a disturbance at the Regina Correctional Centre on Thursday night.
The emergency response team was called in to end what the province is referring to as a “disturbance” at the Regina jail.
The Ministry of Justice has confirmed that 13 inmates were involved in the disturbance. One inmate was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries, and was returned to the correctional centre that night.
A staff member also suffered a minor injury and was treated off-site.
Four inmates have been transferred because of the disturbance.
It is estimated that there is $100,000 worth of damage to the jail.
RCMP are currently investigating and will determine if charges should be laid. Because of this investigation, the ministry said they cannot disclose any further information.
The ministry added that they cannot disclose information on their operational or security protocols for security reasons.
