City councillor Ross Eadie is being reprimanded by the police board for disclosing confidential information about the potential location of the Winnipeg Police Service’s new North District Station.
The disciplinary measure is a result of Eadie telling a city council meeting last month that the new station would be built on the same land where the North Winnipeg Nomads Football Club play their games, leaving the Nomads “homeless,” according to a news release prepared by the police board.

That information came from a confidential briefing provided to the board by the police service, continued the release.
Eadie “crossed over and breached an obligation of confidentiality,” said police board chair David Asper during a board meeting on Friday morning at city hall.
The board could have asked for Eadie’s resignation or asked council to revoke his appointment to the board but chose to reprimand him instead after a private meeting was held following Eadie’s council remarks.
Asper said he believed Eadie was acting out of concern for constituents in his ward when he brought up the potential new location for the football club at city council.
However, he also said Eadie failed to provide the proper context of the briefing about the new station by not mentioning that extensive community consultations are planned for the new station and that the service didn’t intend to leave the football club homeless.
