James Comey reveals explosive details of President Trump meetings
James Comey's prepared testimony has been released, the day before the former FBI director testifies about his relationship with President Trump before the Senate Intelligence Committee. Jackson Proskow reports – Jun 7, 2017

All eyes will be on Washington today as former FBI Director James Comey testifies on Capitol Hill about allegations that Donald Trump pressured him to drop the FBI probe into Russian involvement in last year’s U.S. presidential election, and if Comey’s opening statement is any indication, it’s going to be  a rough and tumble affair.

Cable news networks have blocked off time to carry the testimony live with the usual commentary or spin from the not-so-objective political panellists, but the wild card in testimony may be Trump himself.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

In spite of pleas from Trump’s lawyers to stay silent today, it’s expected that Trump will be tweeting his responses to Comey’s testimony and that could make a riveting day of political theatre even more fascinating.

We already know that Comey has insisted that Trump asked him to drop the FBI probe into Russian ties and that Trump demanded loyalty to him, both of which add credibility to the claims that Trump is guilty of obstruction of justice; and we know that Trump denies everything.

So, the big question is, can Comey back up his allegations against Trump?

If that happens, if there’s a “gotcha” moment in this testimony, Trump’s already staggering administration could be dealt a knockout punch.
