Pedestrian hit and killed by semi-trailer on Stoney Trail

One person was killed on Friday after being hit by a semi-trailer in southeast Calgary.

It happened in the eastbound lanes of Stoney Trail near Sun Valley Boulevard S.E. at around 10 a.m.

Police said it appears the victim, a man in his 50s, was hit after exiting his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It’s not known why the man got out of his vehicle.

The driver of the semi-trailer wasn’t injured.

The incident caused the closure of eastbound Stoney Trail S.E. at Chaparral Boulevard S.E.

Police are speaking with witnesses who were driving in the area at the time in the hopes of determining more details on the collision.
