Downtown Montreal stabbing leaves one man dead

One man is dead after police were called to a brawl at the corner of Sainte-Catherine and Mackay at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday night.

They found a 23-year-old man with a stab wound to his upper body nearby at the corner of Crescent and Sainte-Catherine streets.

“He was transported to hospital in critical condition,” said Montreal police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant.

“He later died of his injuries in hospital, becoming Montreal’s ninth homicide of the year.”

Three men in their 20s were in custody Wednesday morning.

As of 11 a.m., Sainte-Catherine Street between Guy and de la Montagne streets was closed as Montreal police investigate the incident.

It is the ninth homicide of the year in Montreal.
