Video shows Vancouver police surrounding ambulance stolen from outside hospital

Vancouver police officers were involved in a dramatic takedown near Vancouver General Hospital on Thursday evening.

Officers were called just after 6 p.m. when someone stole a advance life support ambulance from outside the hospital.

It was stolen from outside the emergency room entrance but the joyrider didn’t get very far. Police say he drove it around the hospital once but was then surrounded by police at Oak Street and West 10. Ave.

He was boxed in by another ambulance and several Vancouver police cars. Officers smashed the window of the stolen ambulance and used a bean bag shotgun to take the driver into custody.

Part of the takedown was caught on tape. Officers can be heard shouting and yelling at the driver to get out of the ambulance. The bean bag gun can also be heard going off.

The driver was taken into custody and police say he suffered minor injuries.

After being treated he will be taken to jail and will be facing charges for theft of the ambulance.
