RCMP arrest attempted murder suspect

Princeton RCMP confirm the arrest of a suspect wanted in connection to a shooting in Oliver Apr. 19.

Afshin Maleki Ighani was taken into custody after a dramatic police chase that began around 11 a.m. in Princeton.

Princeton resident Chris Jennings, who lives in the Deblyn Trailer Park on Corina Ave. in Princeton, said he heard a gunshot outside his home then saw an RCMP vehicle rush by.

Jennings said their neighbourhood is a series of dead-end streets.

RCMP confirm they attempted to shoot out the tires of a car Ighany stole outside a Princeton restaurant.

The 45-year-old Oliver resident ordered a man out of the car and left with the man’s girlfriend still in the vehicle.

Police say the male victim allegedly stole a motorcycle to follow the two, but abandoned the bike in Okanagan Falls. He is still at large.

The woman’s cell phone was traced to a Princeton neighbourhood and the RCMP helicopter was used to help locate the vehicle in the Deblyn Trailer Park.

The suspect then fled into a nearby wooded area where he was tracked and captured by the RCMP dog team.

He remains in custody.

RCMP in the south Okanagan have issued a Canada-wide arrest warrant for a man wanted for alleged attempted murder and seven other offenses in an incident Wednesday evening in Oliver where the victim suffered a non life-threatening gunshot injury.

Afshin Maleki Ighani, 45, is described as:

-Non-white male
-175cm 5’9
-75kg 166lbs
-Bald
-Brown eyes

Police consider Ighani to be armed and dangerous and warn the public he should not be approached.
