Adidas apologizes for email congratulating Boston Marathon entrants on ‘surviving the race’

Adidas was forced to issue a mea culpa on Tuesday after sending an ill-advised email to Boston Marathon participants which raised plenty of eyebrows on Twitter.

The email, which subject line read, “Congrats, you survived the Boston Marathon!,” came just four years after several bombs exploded at the finish line of the race, leaving three dead and over 180  injured.

Inside the email was an advertisement for several Adidas products.

Twitter users were quick to react to the sporting goods company’s error:

And Adidas was almost as quick to issue an apology for their error. “We are incredibly sorry. Clearly, there was no thought given to the insensitive email subject line we sent Tuesday. We deeply apologize for our mistake.”
