Ontario police identify victim of fatal workplace accident southwest of Exeter

Huron OPP have identified a 62-year-old St. Marys man as the victim of a fatal workplace accident on Monday at a grain elevator southwest of Exeter.

Police, paramedics and fire crews were called to the scene on Kirkton Road at around 9:15 a.m. and found an unresponsive man. His injuries proved to be fatal, police said in a media release, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have identified the man as William Inch, 62, of St. Marys, Ont.

So far, investigation has found that a truck driver at the site had just finished dropping off a load, had cleared the weigh station, and before leaving the property, stopped to check on the condition of his trailer.

A short time later, police say the man was found pinned underneath one of the tractor-trailer’s tires.

No further information has been released, and Huron OPP and the Ontario Ministry of Labour are continuing to investigate the incident.

A post-mortem was scheduled to take place on Tuesday.
