UPDATE (April 7, 2017): Emma Stone has since responded to Staudenmaier’s “prom-posal.” On Friday, Staudenmaier read the following message from the actress on Good Morning America: “Jacob, thanks for making the greatest proposal I have ever received. I can’t tell you what an honour that was and how much I smiled through that entire beautifully orchestrated video. I’m in London working, but I hope you have the best time at prom, and I’m grateful you thought of me. Thank you. P.S. I do see Gosling around the eyes. Love, Emma.”

ORIGINAL STORY: A Phoenix, Ariz. teen is inviting Emma Stone to be his prom date by recreating La La Land’s opening scene.

Jacob Staudenmaier filmed his “prom-posal” in the style of the opening song from Stone’s Oscar-winning film, which features a dance number on a traffic-filled Los Angeles highway. He enlisted dozens of classmates and a few teachers to help with the video.

“Please don’t let me down. It’d be in your hometown,” Staudenmair belts in the song.

“People say I look like Ryan Gosling, and maybe that’s a bit far-fetched,” he sings.

“It started with the kind of crazy idea of saying, ‘Yeah, maybe I’ll go with Emma Stone to the prom,’” Staudenmaier told USA Today. “I decided if I was going to do this, I really needed to do it big.”

He says he has yet to get an answer from the actress, but remains hopeful.

“I haven’t heard anything specifically from her. I’ve heard a rumour and sort of a confirmed truth that her mom has seen it. I assume at some point it will get to her,” the Arcadia High School student revealed.

Staudenmaier says asking Stone to prom started out as a joke, and says he has a backup date in case the actress doesn’t see his video.

Stone grew up in Scottsdale, Ariz., a fact Staudenmaier mentions in the lyrics of his prom request.
