Calgary dayhome operator to stand trial for 2015 death of toddler Ceira McGrath

A southwest Calgary dayhome operator has been ordered to stand trial following the death of a toddler under her care.

Elmarie Aurelia Simons faces a charge of criminal negligence causing death in the November 2015 death of Ceira Lynn McGrath.

The 18-month-old was found not breathing at the dayhome on Silverado Ridge S.W. She went into medical distress while in a car seat inside the unlicensed dayhome.

She was rushed to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Alberta Justice said Simons was ordered to stand trial after a preliminary hearing was held this week.

Trial dates have not yet been set.
