The Village of Lumby, B.C., will receive $150,000 for flood protection from the province, MLA for Vernon-Monashee Eric Foster announced today, on behalf of Minister of State for Emergency Preparedness Naomi Yamamoto.
“As a former mayor, regional district chair, and now MLA, I have seen Lumby manage flood events throughout the past 30 years. This $150,000 investment will support the Village of Lumby with much-needed planning dollars to allow them to know the risks and plan ahead,” Foster said in a news release.
The money will be used for Lumby’s flood and hazard mapping project which will allow the village to plan for potential flood events.
The province has also allotted $1 million to the Fraser Basin Council (FBC) to conduct an inventory and engineering assessment of all unmanaged dikes in British Columbia.
The assessment will determine the cost to upgrade the dikes to provincial standards as well as assess the flood risks to local communities from the unmanaged dikes.
