Fewer parking spots for commuters at Vaudreuil AMT train station

Monday morning, off-island commuters taking the Vaudreuil train were forced to look for alternative parking after the nearby sports complex closed its lot to them.

The new rules were advertised over the last week, as complex management explained there was no longer enough parking for its members.

Some residents, like Lynn Labelle, said the Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) needs to build another parking lot on vacant land nearby.

“If you’re encouraging people to take the train, you have to give us parking space,” she told Global News.

Some commuters argue people who used to park in the sports complex may now get up early and fill up the 593 spots at the station.

“Now, I’m going to have to park my car very far away – and now, I’m looking for a place where I can park late,” said Michel Zwards, a commuter.

The AMT said it lacks the budget to expand its parking lot.

Any car left in the sports complex’s parking lot longer than four hours may receive a $43 fine.
