Man seriously injured in downtown Montreal stabbing

A 54-year old man is recovering in hospital after he was stabbed in the chest following an altercation with another man early Sunday.

Police received a 911 call at 3:20 a.m. reporting a man had been stabbed.

When officers arrived on Crescent Street they located the victim outside a bar.

Police spokesperson Raphaël Bergeron said the victim suffered serious injuries to the upper body caused by an edged weapon.

He was rushed to hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

A perimeter was established around the crime scene and investigators were speaking to witnesses.

Officers are also hoping to review video surveillance footage to help them identify the suspect.

Bergeron said no arrests have been made and the motive of the attack is not yet known.
