A day after heavy winds swept through the region, local roofing companies are left dealing with the damages.
In one instance, a London company called to repair a damaged roof ended up becoming a victim of the gusting winds.
“One of my workers was actually inside the truck parked in the driveway and while she was sitting in the driver’s seat, the tree beside the driveway blew over and landed right on the truck,” owner of Kind Metal Roofing, Paul Greer, told AM980.
“It did about $5,000 worth of damage. No injuries, no nothing, just damage to the truck.”
Greer added that having one of his three trucks out of commission until roughly noon Thursday was unfortunate as the business was swamped with calls in the wake of Wednesday’s strong winds.
Shamas Contracting also reported an increase in business due to the winds. The company expects to remain busy into next week.
“Usually people have noticed what happened, they’ll be calling us today, maybe tomorrow,” said Martin, an accountant with Shamas Contracting.
“If people have a bare roof because of shingles we have to get over there right away. It’ll go on until next week.”
Shamas Contracting and Kind Metal Roofing both reported having upwards of 20 calls each in less than two days due to wind damage.
