A special weather statement has ended for the Greater Toronto Area after strong winds ripped through the region earlier in the day.
Environment Canada issued the statement for the region, along with a wind warning for much of southwestern Ontario, Wednesday morning.
By the afternoon, wind gusts in Toronto hit nearly 80 km/h. Some Toronto Hydro customers in the city’s northwest and along Lake Ontario were affected by power outages, which were largely resolved by the evening.
Even higher winds were felt in the Hamilton region and southwestern Ontario, with gusts in some areas exceeding 100 km/h.
The Burlington Skyway was closed for hours on Wednesday afternoon after winds blew a tractor-trailer onto its side.

In London, Ont., the winds downed trees and traffic lights and sent shingles flying.
Large portions of the city were without power at times, though electricity had been restored for many as of early Wednesday evening.
As of late Wednesday afternoon, Hydro One said more than 68,000 of its customers across southwestern Ontario remained without power.
