Toronto man charged with 1st-degree murder in fatal west-end shooting

Police have charged a Toronto man with first-degree murder and are searching for a second suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Kareem Hastings in December.

Toronto police responded to a report of a medical issue at a residential building near Lawrence Avenue West and Weston Road at around 3 p.m. Dec. 17.

A man was found in the stairwell of the building suffering from gunshot wounds without vital signs. Police later identified the victim as Hastings and said it was believed he had been shot shortly after midnight.

Following an autopsy, the homicide unit took over the investigation and police appealed to the public for video or information on what happened.

On Tuesday, police charged 22-year-old Kadeem Davis with one count of first-degree murder. He is scheduled to appear in a Toronto court Wednesday morning and a second suspect is still outstanding.
