Alberta RCMP say death of man barricaded in Pincher Creek home ‘not suspicious’

Alberta RCMP said Monday the death of a man that spurred a police investigation on the weekend has been deemed not suspicious.

RCMP and the Emergency Response Team were called to an area in the Town of Pincher Creek Saturday.

Police contained the area for several hours and asked the public to avoid the area of Macleod Street.

Officers said they were dealing with a man barricaded in a house; a statement later specified the man was armed. People in the community were asked to stay in their homes.

On Sunday morning at 6:20, emergency officials went into the home and found the man dead.

Police will not be identifying the man.

“No shots were fired by the RCMP during the response,” RCMP said in a statement.
