Can Man Dan, aka Dan Johnstone, is camping out in front of Sobeys on Ellerslie Road and 111th Street Sunday, collecting food and monetary donations for the Edmonton Food Bank.

“So far, it’s been incredible. Edmontonians are pouring on in here in the donating spirit. It’s good to see,” said Dan.

Two weeks ago, Dan spent 59 hours in a one ton truck, camped out in front of the Terra Losa Safeway location, in an attempt to fill his fundraising goal. While Dan managed to collect over 11,000 pounds of food – which is nearly three times more food than he collected last year- he fell short of his monetary fundraising goal.

“I said, you know what, I better pick up my britches and come back out here and try again.”

Dan and his brother were raised by a single mother. He says she worked extremely hard to provide them with a great life, and relied on the Food Bank from time to time in order to provide them with nutritious meals.

“The Food Bank was there for me and my brother for 18 years so, it’s time for me to give back.”

Dan is still collecting donations online, on his Facebook page, as well as through the Edmonton Food Bank.
