A 15-year employee with the Regina Sexual Assault Centre (RSAC) has been charged with fraud.
Debra Lynn House, 63, is facing a number of fraud charges after a nearly seven-month long investigation.
It’s alleged that House defrauded the centre of money over a seven-year span from 2009 to 2016.
“There were some accounting irregularities noticed and that’s what started the initial audit and then that triggered providing information to the police,” Kristina Kaminski, president of the board of directors for RSAC, said.
Police said over the course of the investigation, the investigator obtained evidence to support criminal charges against House.
“We are a non-profit organization so the budget that we have to work with as all other non-profit organizations is pretty small and regarding the charges, one of which was theft over $5,000, obviously for a small non-profit organization that does affect our centre,” Kaminski added.
House is facing several fraud charges including fraud over $5,000 and theft over $5,000.
House was arrested Friday evening and appeared in provincial court Monday afternoon.
Lawyers agreed to her release, provided she not be present at the Regina Sexual Assault Centre among other conditions. House agreed to the conditions.
House is scheduled to make her next appearance on Feb. 27.
RSAC has fired House from her position with the organization. The centre remained fully operational.
