CALGARY – Communities along Crowchild trail are banding together in the hopes of influencing future changes along the busy roadway.
Next week, the city is expected to throw out a controversial one billion dollar Crowchild Corridor study in the wake of mounting opposition from councillors and the public.
It’s a plan that would see homes in several communities demolished to make way for on and off ramps and the construction of two extra bridges over the Bow river.
Mayor Nenshi and several city councillors have signed a motion asking that design work be stopped and a new plan be developed.
They’re asking the community to give feedback so they can shape a plan that the public supports.
“We’re looking at a new policy to look at corridors in general. How is that going to work? How are we going to create the infrastructure that we need without wholesale developing a plan that removes communities.” says Councillor John Mar.
“your government is basically only as good as the people who support it. And basically, if they don’t know exactly what the people want, how can they do that?”
The community of West Hillhurst is planning to hold meetings next month, to discuss which route the city should take.
