CALGARY – A tragedy at a school in Bearspaw has left the entire community saddened.
An eight-year-old boy was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition over the lunch hour on Wednesday.
The Grade 3 student was found in the washroom unresponsive, with the lanyard he wore around his neck caught on a bathroom cubical door.
A student who found the child alerted a teacher, who called 911 and performed CPR on the student until paramedics arrived.

The child remains in hospital in stable but critical condition.
After investigating, RCMP concluded no foul play and no criminal activity was involved.
“It appears, at this time, to be a tragic tragic accident,” says RCMP Corporal Darrin Turnbull.
School officials say the use of lanyards has been suspended at this time.
A crisis response team has been on site for the past two days, to tend to the emotional needs of students, staff and parents.
Bearspaw School is located just west of city limits, and is home to about 500 students.
