2 men in custody after allegedly stealing a pickup truck in Vancouver

Harry Kenneth Folkes and Hastings Steven Gillies have been identified as suspects in connection with the theft of a truck that later collided with an SUV in Vancouver early Friday morning, police said in a news release.

Vancouver police said they were called to the area of Harwood and Burrard Street around 4 a.m. after the owner of a 1994 Dodge Ram pickup truck saw someone stealing his vehicle.

Police found the truck as it was driving southbound over the Burrard Street Bridge.

They followed it to Granville Street and West 16th Avenue, where it hit a SUV.

Police quickly boxed-in the truck to prevent it from leaving.

One suspect was taken into custody in the truck, a second ran from the scene and was pursued by a police dog. He was ultimately arrested as well.

The driver of the SUV was taken to hospital for minor injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.

Folkes, 29, faces four charges: dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, theft of a motor vehicle, flight from a police officer and failing to remain at the scene of a crash.

Gillies, also 29, has been charged with one count of theft of a vehicle.
