Kindale kicks off kindness

Celebrating Canada with kindness – Dec 16, 2016

The holiday season is a time of giving and it seems like second nature to go out of your way for others. Now a north Okanagan organization that helps people with mental and physical disabilities is launching a new initiative that may keep that kindness going throughout 2017.

The program, spearheaded by Kindale Development Association, has been named 150 Random Acts of Canadian Kindness.

The initiative is meant to help celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017.

“We are just going to encourage Canadians in the north Okanagan to do random acts of kindness and we are going to help by creating random acts of kindness. We are going to be out, in the community, for a whole year doing random acts of kindness,” said Cindy Masters, Kindale’s development officer.

Kindale is envisioning people doing simple acts of kindness like plugging a parking meter or shoveling a sidewalk. People will be encouraged to share their stories on social media for a chance to win prizes.

“We believe that Canadians are kind and we are going to help exacerbate kindness,” said Masters.

The initiative is being support by federal money. However, neither the local MP nor Kindale would say how much money Ottawa has promised for the project.
