Canmore school put on lockdown after nearby break-and-enter reported: RCMP

Canmore RCMP have confirmed they placed Lawrence Grassi Middle School on lockdown Tuesday after a suspected break-and-enter at a nearby residence.

In a news release Tuesday afternoon, RCMP said they were called to a home around 12:20 p.m. after a witness claimed to have heard a “pop” from inside a residence and a hole in one of the windows in the home.

Police said they could not immediately determine whether the suspect left the residence, so RCMP cordoned off the area and limited access for public safety.

As a part of that decision RCMP advised Lawrence Grassi Middle School, where the children were kept inside while police continued to investigate.

No suspect had been located as of 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, but RCMP are continuing to investigate.
