An extreme cold warning for Saskatoon was issued by Environment Canada Friday afternoon.

The federal agency issues these warnings when very cold temperatures or wind chills create an elevated risk to health such as frostbite and hypothermia.

A ridge of high pressure is producing clear skies and bone-cold temperatures across the Prairies, dropping our overnight temperatures to -30 or colder, producing wind chill values of -40 or colder. While it may even out on Saturday and warm up to more moderate temperatures, extreme wind chills are expected again overnight Saturday.

Frostbite can occur between 10 to 30 minutes at -28 C. Global News

Always wear clothing appropriate for the weather. Layers are encouraged to reduce your risk of hypothermia or frostbite.
