Police have released video surveillance images of a man they say is the suspect in the fatal shooting of Marcus Gibson in Toronto’s Riverdale neighbourhood last month.
The 24-year-old was fatally shot in a home on Munro Street near Dundas Street East shortly before 4 p.m. on Nov. 27.
Police released the images in a press conference Friday morning. The images were captured on a store’s surveillance video on Munro Street, about a minute’s walk north of Gibson’s residence.
The first image of the man is from 3:20 p.m. on the afternoon of the murder, showing the suspect walking south on Munro. The second image shows the same man running north at 3:56 p.m.
The man is dressed in dark clothing and wearing a cloth mask over his face. In the first video clip, he can be seen putting on a pair of gloves.
Police believe the key to identifying the man could be his hat, which they believe is recognizable. The man is wearing a “distinctive” black baseball cap with a pattern on the top of the lid, and what is possibly a Detroit Tigers logo.
Police also say they are only looking for one suspect at this point in the investigation.
“He was murdered in his bedroom. I believe there was only two people there, so I don’t think it was mistaken identity,” said Det. Murray Barnes.
Barnes said Gibson’s family is “devastated.”
“Despite what people have looked into Marcus’ lifestyle and background, Marcus is a son, a brother, he’s a father,” said Barnes.
“He surrounded himself with a lot of very good friends and his family are very good people.”
The shooting of Gibson happened in the same Riverdale neighbourhood where 61-year old grandmother Peggy Ann Smith was shot and killed in August.

Gibson was previously linked to the brazen shooting inside the Garden Restaurant on Nov. 16, 2014 which killed one man and injured two women.
Gibson, who was 22 at the time, was charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a firearm in connection with the shooting.
In June 2015, the charges against Gibson were stayed after the Crown found there was no reasonable prospect of a conviction in the case.
