WINNIPEG — An idea shared by photographers world wide has transformed in to a movement aimed at bringing smiles to faces this holiday season.
Help-Portrait began as a simple idea and three months later became a movement.
Organizers said the purpose for the non-profit organization is to use the skills of professional photographers, make-up artists, hair stylists and volunteers to take a professional photo, print it, and deliver it to someone less fortunate in the community who may not otherwise have the opportunity for a professional photo.
Help-Portrait is celebrating its eight anniversary and hoping to bring the numbers up even higher for how many people they’ve been able to help. In the last eight years, more than 370,825 portraits have been taken by over 73,000 volunteers.
This global movement has taken place in more than 2,803 locations in 67 countries.
In Winnipeg, it’ll take place at two locations. Inidigenous Family Centre and Siloam Mission from 10a.m. – 4p.m.
