Niagara Regional Police say the Amber Alert has ended for Layla Sabry, but they are still looking for the missing girl as part of an ongoing, active missing persons case.
“The urgency of the investigation has not changed, just the manner in which it is being put out,” said Constable Virginia Moir, with the Niagara Regional Police.
Amber Alerts typically extend for five hours and when they’ve “run their course” according police, broadcasts are no longer be sent out; but mobilization of police resources does not change.
Police said Sabry and her mother Allana Haist were last seen Thursday at 6 p.m. in Welland, Ont.
Police said they are operating under a court order to return the child to her father.
Layla is described as white, four-foot two, light brown hair and brown eyes.
Her mother, who police say also goes by the aliases of Kate Dillon or Lana Marie, is white, five-foot one, medium length brown hair with brown eyes.
