A boil order has been issued for all Saint John Municipal Water users, east of the Reversing Falls Bridge, except those in the Harbourview subdivision.
The city says heavy rain and high winds have stirred fine particles of sediment and organic matter, making the disinfecting process harder, so they can no longer guarantee the safety of the drinking water.
The city advises residents to bring their water to a rolling boil for at least one minute, then allow it to cool before they use it.
Drinking, cooking, brushing teeth and washing fruits and vegetables should only be done with water that’s been boiled first.
The water is safe for showers or bathing as well as washing dishes that will be air dried.
