Border officials seized more than 20 kilograms of cocaine in an unclaimed suitcase on a flight from Panama at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport last month.
The Canada Border Services Agency said Tuesday they had seized about 21 kilograms of the drug after border agents noticed the suitcase was never picked up.
The suitcase was further examined by the officers, who found it contained two backpacks with 21 brick-shaped bundles of suspected cocaine inside.

The CBSA said the packages tested positive for cocaine during a field test and the contents were turned over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
“It is thanks to our highly skilled officers and their excellent command of interception techniques that these narcotics did not make their way onto our streets,” CBSA Regional Director General Goran Vragovic said in a release.
“Their vigilance helps to prevent illicit activity from crossing through our borders, and continues to support the safety and security of Canada.”

The CBSA said that between Jan. 1 and Oct. 23 of this year, the agency has made more than 150 cocaine seizures in the Greater Toronto Area totalling more than 2,000 kilograms.
