OTTAWA – The skies may have been dark in Ottawa, but nothing could dampen the mood of football fans in the nation’s capital.
Fans lined Bank St. and packed a square at TD Place today to witness Ottawa’s first sports championship parade in 40 years as the Redblacks celebrated their 39-33 Grey Cup victory over the Calgary Stampeders on Sunday.
With local school buses cancelled due to early morning freezing rain, children were in abundance to cheer on its local heroes.
Players riding in the backs of trucks were greeted by exuberant fans dressed in Redblacks colours.
The loudest cheers came for quarterback Henry Burris and his family as the Grey Cup game MVP signed autographs along the parade route.
The event culminated with a fan rally at TD Place.
