Eveline Canape and Claire Tremblay are now partners in crime. The two entrepreneurs recently acquired Quebec’s Energie Cardio, the biggest franchise network of fitness centres in the province.

While many think of the fitness industry as a male-dominated field, Canape sees things differently.

“We are really present in the industry,” she said.

Canape herself, a trained physical educator, worked as a personal trainer, group instructor, as well as holding stints working in rehab and with the elderly before moving on to managerial positions within the industry.

Canape sees women as a natural fit in the field and not an anomaly.

“Women are good organizers, like to manage people and help people to succeed,” she said. “I think this is a field that you can help so many people to be their best and to help them to grow.”

It’s that desire to help people that first brought her to the company.

“We shared the same values and the same goal to change lives and to help people integrate physical activities into their lives,” she explained.

As Energie Cardio’s new VP, Canape said she hopes to continue to build on the company’s strengths while bringing in innovative ideas to keep members motivated.

“We want to continue to offer new ideas and new surprises to the members,” Canape said.

For Canape, it’s not only about bringing members to the gym, it’s about building relationships.

“We are partners with them in everything we want to do,” she said.
