In the video you can see the driver fleeing several police units, and weaving through traffic at high speeds, before stopping in front a river and jumping into it.

“His attempts to evade several police units that went to the assistance of RIU came to an abrupt halt when he abandoned his van on Liege Street Cannington and jumped into the Canning River,” police wrote on Facebook.

Police compared the officer who chased the fleeing suspect into the water with Australian swimmer and Olympic gold medallist Michael Klim.

“One of our officers flew into the water at a speed which would out swim Michael Klim & arrested the 26 year old man,” police said.
