LGBTQ film festival set to kick off in Montreal

The 29th annual image+nation film festival is set to kick off in Montreal.

The festival promotes films from Montreal and around the world that focus on subjects that affect the LGBTQ community.

“The festival started out in 1987 when there were no LGBTQ images anywhere,” said Charlie Boudreau, image+nation executive director.

“If there were, they weren’t very nice, they weren’t very positive.”

The image+nation festival isn’t just aimed at the LGBTQ population.

“We show these images so that people can be made aware of stories of people around the world,” Boudreau said.

The films will be taking place at a variety of theatres around the city, including Cinéma Impérial, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Never Apart Centre, Concordia University Cinema and Cinémathèque québécoise.

“We specialize in bringing you the best of these images that are made by LGBTQ people to tell our stories,” Boudreau said.

The festival takes place from Nov. 24 to Dec. 4.
