Alysha Brilla wants her music to move people toward tolerance.
The two-time Juno nominated artist is in the Okanagan to visit 24 schools and inspire students with her music.
Brilla sings of compassion and truth, principles she believes youth appreciate because we all want to feel accepted for who we are.
Monday at Rutland Senior Secondary, Brilla had students participating in her self-written songs about truth and compassion.
“I remember when I was in high school, I got bullied a lot,” Brilla said. “I dealt with that same atmosphere. There’s a lot of insecurity in schools. Youth don’t want to be uncool or ostracized. And so even at an assembly like this, you know, everyone’s a little cautious at first but our goal is to kind of break that ice and everyone can remember that they share this together.”
Brilla released her third album this summer, titled Human.
She hopes to find rhythms that speak to people and inspire.
