Jail time for damaging and stealing from RCMP patrol boat

The crook who vandalized the RCMP’s Okanagan Lake patrol boat has been caught, convicted and sentenced.

At least 20 boats were targeted in May at the Shelter Bay Marina in West Kelowna.

Some were damaged and others pilfered for valuables.

A large hole was cut in the inflatable pontoon of the police boat and electrical components were damaged.

“Thieves then stole emergency safety equipment from the RCMP vessel including personal floatation devices, flares, a set of a binoculars and a police radio,” said Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey at the time.

Marvin Donald Nathaniel Roberts pleaded guilty to theft over $5000.

Roberts was sentenced to one month jail, one year probation and must pay a $200 Victim Surcharge fee.
