A Minneapolis woman has been arrested after she allegedly attempted to hang a toddler at a day care centre Friday morning.
Police say they are investigating the incident, which took place on the morning of Nov. 18.
The 16-month-old boy is expected to survive.
The victim was spotted and rescued by a parent, who was dropping off their child at the facility.
The suspect fled the scene in a gold minivan and was then involved in a hit-and-run. The victim sustained “several broken bones… but is expected to survive his injuries,” said Assistant Chief of Police Kris Arneson during a news conference Friday.
The same van was also seen hitting a bicyclist, but Arneson said the injuries to that victim were not immediately known.
Officials then received a call of the same woman attempting to jump off an overpass and onto the highway below. Bystanders were able to pin the suspect down until police arrived and arrested her.
It’s still not known what the motive of the attack was, but Arneson called the event “horrific” and that the day care is licensed.
According to the Star Tribune, the suspect is believed to be the day care operator.
The woman remains in police custody and is being evaluated at a local hospital.
