It was supposed to be a routine maintenance call for the City of Kelowna, to fix a damaged water pipe on Walker Drive.
Instead, one of the city’s vehicles ended up becoming a casualty, as the ground underneath it gave way just after 9 a.m.
The city vacuum truck’s rear wheels were was stuck in the sinkhole for several hours.
City crews dug test holes to determine the extent of the sinkhole, before bringing in another vehicle to remove the stuck vacuum truck.
The size of the hidden cavern indicates the water main had been slowly leaking for a lengthy time.
