Former John Howard Society employee charged in sex assault investigation

AJAX, Ont. — A former employee of the John Howard Society is facing charges after police say he sexually assaulted a man following a counselling session.

Police in York Region say the alleged victim came forward last month and an arrest was made on Nov. 1.

They say Shane Joseph, 36, of Ajax, is charged with two counts of sexual assault and one each of assault and forcible confinement.

He is due in court Dec. 7.

The John Howard Society is an advocacy group that helps inmates reintegrate society at the end of their sentence, among other things.
