12-year-old girl assaulted in Port Moody park

Port Moody Police officers are investigating after a 12-year-old girl was physically assaulted in a park Thursday afternoon.

The alleged assault took place at about 3:40 p.m. when the young girl was walking home from school through Bert Flinn Park. Police said she was then grabbed by an unknown male.

The victim screamed and fought back, causing the suspect to flee into a nearby forest.

Police crews searched the area, including by helicopter, but were unable to find the man.

They are now hoping the public can help identify the suspect.

He is described as Caucasian in his mid- to late teens and 5’6″ tall. He was wearing a dark blue jacket, dark blue jeans, and black runners. The victim said his face was partially covered.

Port Moody Victim Services is now working with the family and victim. The Major Crime Section is investigating.

Police ask anyone who may have observed anything suspicious in the area to report it to Port Moody Police Major Crime Section at 604-461-3456.
