One dead, two injured after stabbing at Vancouver Canadian Tire

A violent confrontation at a Vancouver Canadian Tire store left a robbery suspect dead and a police officer in the hospital. Jennifer Palma has more from the scene – Nov 10, 2016

A police officer and a store employee are injured and one person is dead after police intervened in an alleged robbery at a Canadian Tire in East Vancouver.

Two Vancouver Police officers responded to a violent crime at a Canadian Tire at Grandview Highway and Bentall Street on Thursday afternoon shortly after 3 p.m. PT. When they arrived, a robbery was in progress, police said.

One store employee was stabbed during the incident.

When police confronted the suspect as he ran from the store, one officer was stabbed multiple times. Police then shot and killed the suspect.

In a video of the altercation, the suspect can be heard yelling “Finish me off! Finish me!” after being shot.

Witnesses said a man walked to the fourth-floor gun and outdoor section of the Canadian Tire, after which they heard up to 10 shots.

The injured officer and employee are in hospital in stable, but serious, condition.

The Independent Investigation Office (IIO BC) has been notified.
