Transit bus drivers in the Central Okanagan have voted to take strike action effective Thursday morning and last minute negotiations Wednesday failed to produce another solution.
Members of the Almalgamated Transit Union issued 72-hour strike notice to their employer — First Canada — last week.
The drivers have been without a contract for several months.
Local union president, Scott Lovell, tells Global Okanagan that the employer did agreed to sit down with the union Wednesday morning in Kelowna, but the company did not agree to new contract terms.
Bus drivers will be off the job at 4:30 a.m. Thursday and pickets will go up.
Handydart service will continue to be offered as an essential service.
