Winnipeg woman,78, dies in Highway 59 crash, 6 other women seriously injured

A 78-year-old woman from Winnipeg is dead after an SUV crashed on Highway 59 over the weekend, leaving six other women seriously injured.

On Sunday at 3:30 p.m., Morris and Emerson RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision on Highway 59, just north of Provincial Road 201.

An SUV swerved and rolled several times, RCMP said.

There were seven women in the SUV, aged 81, 78, 73, 60, 61, 75 and 61. Four passengers were ejected from the vehicle.

A 78-year-old female from Winnipeg was pronounced dead on scene. The remaining six women were taken to a Winnipeg hospital with serious injuries.

RCMP are investigating the crash and believe speed is a factor.
