10-year-old girl riding bike seriously injured after being hit by school bus in Oakville

A 10-year-old girl suffered serious injuries after being struck by a school bus while riding her bicycle in Oakville Monday morning.

Halton Regional Police said the bus was turning left onto northbound Sixth Line from a plaza driveway just before 9 a.m. south of Upper Middle Road when it came into contact with the girl, who was riding along the sidewalk.

She was transported to McMaster Hospital where she remains in serious condition.

Police said the 54-year-old Oakville man driving the bus was not injured and there were no children on board.

The bus was inspected by the police Commercial Vehicle Unit and was found in good condition.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and no charges had yet been laid.

Police closed Sixth Line between Elm Road and Upper Middle in both directions for the investigation, which were later reopened.
