Two people are in custody after the SWAT team conducted a search warrant in Regent Park on Sunday.
Around 5 p.m., residents in the 400 block of Royal Street were told to stay inside their homes while police executed a pre-planned high-risk search warrant.
Police say two people were taken into custody without incident.
According to police, while searching the house officers found seven firearms, a large amount of ammunition, substances officers believed to be marijuana, psilocybin, as well as cash.
Elizabeth Popowich, communications manager for Regina Police Service said this was considered a high-risk search warrant because of the potential of firearms.
“We’ve talked quite a bit about seeing an increase in firearms incidents in the city and so we feel that this certainly is a significant success to have seized seven firearms,” Popowich said.
Twenty-four year-old Scott Tanner Mason Thompson and 20-year-old Alex J. Worrall-Mcleod are both facing numerous charges including careless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm obtained by crime and possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000.
Another neighbour, Arzoo Azizullah said she was inside her home at the time of the raid Sunday evening but was unaware that anything was happening.
“It doesn’t affect me but I hope it doesn’t happen again, ’cause it might affect me, selling drugs, ’cause I have a lot of little siblings and I don’t want anything to happen to them” Azizullah said.
Both men made their first court appearance on Monday morning.
