Penticton waterpark plans quashed

Some residents still against new proposal for Skaha Lake Park – Nov 2, 2016

After months of controversy, protests and legal action, the City of Penticton has decided not to allow a waterslide development to move forward in Skaha Lake Park.

Council chambers was full as the late addition to the regular meeting was discussed Tuesday.

Council heard a staff report on a new proposal for the marina development which includes two new options.

The report proposes no new development on green space in Penticton and no waterpark.

But the developer, Trio Marine Group, will have some of its interests preserved.

“Trio will have option to proceed with advancements to marina and concession in 2018 and following consultation and with community support Trio will have option to pursue a lake play structure in 2018 and first right to propose other park amenities in 2019,” said acting chief administrative officer, Mitch Moroziuk.

A special council meeting will be held next Tuesday to hear public input and field questions on the revised proposal.

Council plans to consider the new proposal at its regular meeting on November 15th.
