SIU probes fatal fall of man on highway in Cambridge

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a 56-year-old man fell to his death on a highway in Cambridge.

The Special Investigations Unit says Waterloo Regional police officers were called to deal with a man around 8 p.m. Monday after receiving multiple complaints.

The SIU says officers found the man on an Highway 401 overpass at Hespeler Road and a short time later the man fell onto Highway 401 below.

They say the unidentified man was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The SIU is an arm’s-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been a death, serious injury or alleged sexual assault.
